UPDATE: A Malak man has been granted bail after a federal anti-child abuse taskforce raid on his home.
The 31-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in Darwin Local Court on Thursday in a first appearance over allegations be possessed child abuse material.
NT Police said the man was arrested and charged following a joint search warrant with the Australian Federal Police Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team.
Police alleged the search of the Malak residence on Wednesday uncovered child abuse material.
He was charged with possessing or controlling child abuse material.
The Malak man was granted bail by Judge Thomasin Opie on Thursday.
He will return to Darwin Local Court on January 18.
EARLIER: A MAN has been arrested and charged for alleged possession of child abuse material.
Members of NT Police and the Australian Federal Police Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET) executed a search warrant at the man’s Malak residence on Wednesday.
He was charged with possession or control of child abuse material (Commonwealth) and was remanded to appear in court on November 11.
Detective Sergeant Vanessa Barton urged anyone with information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersnt.com.au.
“Police will continue to work across the jurisdictions to keep children safe,” she said.
