NT paramedics deliver baby outside Jingili shops

A baby decided a Top End shopping precinct was the perfect location to enter the world. Read how the unexpected birth happened.

Baby born in family car

A baby decided it was the perfect time to enter the world at midday outside the Jingili shops.

The woman gave birth in the Build-Up heat outside the busy neighbourhood shopping precinct on Thursday.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said paramedics rushed to the shops and helped the woman.

“It’s bloody hot out there at midday, especially outside of the Jingili shops,” Mr Garraway said.

“Obviously not the best place to be having a baby at this time of the year, the best place is the hospital with a nice air-conditioned ward.”

In a separate incident, a 50-year-old woman was sent to the Katherine District Hospital for treatment after a dog had bitten her buttocks at 10.30pm Thursday.

“(She) was taken to the hospital to get a tetanus shot and a few other things to look after her so she’s recovering in the Katherine Hospital,” Mr Garraway said.
