THE news of the expected closure of Ducks Nuts Bar and Grill has been lamented by Darwinites, with many labelling it just another nail in the coffin of the CBD.
More than 115,000 people saw the story on Facebook, while almost 1000 commented.
“Welcome to Darwin hospitality. New businesses have no chance and old businesses can’t sustain,” Iain Pin Griffiths posted.

“Darwin is officially f**ked. As is the industry. There will be more will follow. The economy is just collapsing around itself. No shops, no restaurants, no bars, no people. Darwin council and the Northern Territory needs a serious word with itself to sort this out.”
“Sad to see another iconic Darwin venue closing its doors! Sign of the times?,” Colin Browne asked.
The feedback came after the NT News revealed staff at the popular eatery had been told they wouldn’t have a job beyond October.
Ducks Nuts is owned by large corporation Event Hospitalities and Entertainment, which also owns the cinemas next door. It’s understood the cinemas will not be closing.
