TERRITORY restaurateurs are pushing for a voucher-style initiative to support the hospitality industry during the coronavirus crisis.
The suggested initiative could be similar to the Home Improvement Scheme, and would give Territorians a voucher to spend at hospitality venues, which can then be redeemed by businesses.
Prominent restaurateur Jason Hanna said he and fellow business people were feeling the strain.
“A Hail Mary would be more than welcome by any small business and that’s what we need right now,” he said.
Hanuman owner Jimmy Shu agreed the initiative would be welcome.
“Every little bit counts at this stage,” he said.
“Beggars can’t be choosers so even if you just give us a dollar, thank you.”
Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce said a voucher initiative was in high demand following a meeting with members.
“Vouchers to encourage Territorians to continue to visit their local venues, attractions and plan staycations came through as a clear priority.
