THE $1,000 Territory Business Lockdown Payment will be doubled in the second week of closure for businesses who have had to remain shut.
The move brings the support package to $3,000 for businesses such as gyms and markets.
The NT Government said this week has seen more than $745,000 paid out so far and more than 1,660 applications made for the Business Lockdown Payment.
The support payment was reintroduced for businesses and individuals as a result of the August lockdown for Greater Darwin and Katherine.
Chief Minister, Michael Gunner acknowledged that businesses have suffered.
“We had to lock down hard and fast to trap the virus and stop it from spreading further,” he said. “I know it hurt, but because we acted so quickly, we’ve been able re-open sooner, and get back to business.”

Small Business Minister Paul Kirby said immediate lockdown payments were offered as vital short-term support in recognition that small business makes up the backbone of the NT economy.
“Now restrictions are easing please get out there and support small businesses – grab a coffee and a toastie in town, pick up something special at one of our many retail stores or enjoy a night out at one of our many restaurants,” he said.
