THE NT government has awarded a $1.9m contract to redevelop a 90-bay parliamentary carpark to a company it’s currently suing.
The project is part of the State Square redevelopment, and would see the existing car spaces turned into parkland.
A tender to build the new space was awarded to PTM Group, according to a notice from the NT government on Wednesday.
That is despite PTM being hit with legal action from the NT government over construction of an $8.8m police station in Yarralin in 2010.

In court files published earlier this year, the NT government alleged the police facility “sustained extensive cracking and damage throughout”.
Remediation work was carried out on parts of the building last year.
A tender for the next part of the redeveloped State Square precinct was released in April.
The redeveloped area would be used to host events and functions, with a contract stipulation that construction noise cannot interrupt parliamentarians on sitting days.
A spokeswoman for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Minister Eva Lawler said PTM was the best of three applicants for the construction tender.
“The contractor awarded this tender has recent experience with successfully delivering similar works across the CBD,” the spokeswoman said.
“Redeveloping Civic and State Square will provide more opportunities for local businesses to be involved and create local jobs in our community, while also creating a pipeline of work throughout the design, consultancy and construction stage.”
The demolition of the parliamentary carpark is part of the State Square redevelopment, which included the completion of a multistorey underground carpark and the demolition of the Chan Building next to parliament.
The spokeswoman for Ms Lawler said she was optimistic about State Square’s progress.
“The progression of Civic and State Square is moving along nicely, with the State Square Art Gallery designs revealed this week,” she said.
