It comes after a major report by the IPCC warned the world needed to act quickly to cut greenhouse gas emissions to prevent substantial increases in global temperatures.
Australia’s average temperature has increased 1.4C over the past century, rising faster than the rest of the world.
When asked what her response to the report was, Ms Lawler said the NT was taking action to cut emissions.
“But I think what we need to see is … the federal government to come out with a target around emissions, and we need the federal government to take leadership around that,” she said.
“I think every state and territory now has their target – zero emissions by 2050 – I think it’s time for the federal government to embrace that was well.”
