THE Territory is now officially clinically COVID-free with no cases recorded in more than 28 days.
The last two cases returned negative results on August 14.
This is the second time COVID-19 has been ‘eradicated’ in the NT.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner said the Territory would remain vigilant against COVID-19.
“Our hard border controls are still there and will stay there for a long time. We have cops on borders and in airports, forced quarantine for hot spots, and tough consequences for rule-breakers,” he said.
“We will keep doing whatever it takes to stay the safest place in Australia.”
Health Minister Natasha Fyles said the government was in talks with other jurisdictions about how to best use the Inpex Workers Camp and with National Cabinet about the cost of the enforced quarantine.

“It’s definitely an asset not only to the NT but the whole of Australia, so we want to work with those jurisdictions to make sure we can secure that in the future so we can make sure we have that resilience in the community,” Ms Fyles said on ABC Radio.
She said the Manigurr-ma Village could house “many hundreds, thousands of people at that facility and not have contact with other groups of people”.
