“We can whinge and complain about the ALP, but ... the CLP are not an effective opposition and will be a shambles in government.”

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles’ new cabinet line-up has sparked furious debate, with many readers claiming the changes are too little, too late - others insist there is no viable alternative.

Amid a raft of changes, Ms Fyles vowed the new cabinet reflected a team “renewed, refreshed and ready to work even harder for the Territory”.

“I felt it was time for renewal, refocus,” she said.

“I’ve chosen people and portfolios that I think best reflect the priorities of Territorians, which are my priorities.

“My priorities are growing the economy and creating more jobs, easing cost of living pressures, and making the Territory a safer place for all.”

When asked if Paul Kirby and Lauren Moss would run again in next year’s election after their bruising exit from cabinet, Ms Fyles said that would be questions for them.

“These are difficult decisions, people are disappointed. I’ll be upfront about that,” she said.

News of the changes ignited debate among readers, with some insisting it was a positive step; others weren’t so convinced.

“Sinking crew of a fast sinking ship,” Ronald wrote.

Gavin agreed: “The horse has already bolted, it’s a bit late to close the door, do I smell an election on the horizon?”

Bernard, though, gave it the thumbs up: “Excellent work Chief Minister! Right people in the right place at the right time!”

WHAT YOU SAID

Too little, too late

David

My opinion FWIW Fyles is the worst Chief Minister in my 28 years up here. Does nothing but collect her pay packet each fortnight

Hellas Darwin

Good Government is what we’re entitled to. Even Labor supporters can see Fyles is incompetent. A catastrophic economy, declining population and LAWLESSNESS and connected and will bring down this worst Government on record.

Bear in the Rum Jungle

We can whinge and complain about the ALP, but the big question is whether an alternative CLP government would be better? Unfortunately, the answer is no. The CLP are not an effective opposition and will be a shambles in government.

Craig

we’ve been an exceptionally good government for our first term and our second term.” ah this is too funny the most inept government the NT has ever had & they really believe there own B.s

Philip

Nothing will improve while Fyles has health and her failing alcohol policy portfolios.

Gavin

The horse has already bolted, it’s a bit late to close the door, do I smell an election on the horizon?

Ronald

Sinking crew of a fast sinking ship.

Spilt Milk.

Could someone please enlighten everyone by informing us one “cost of living pressure” initiative that Fyles has put in place.

JUST ONE?

Time for change!

MICHELE

let’s hope the government has “listened” to all Australians in the “Yes” campaign & ceases the divisive actions that perpetrate everything from name changes, closing national parks & open spaces, to spending waste for funding for the indigenous. This has more to do with the NT economy than people realise.

Territorian

You can change a few things but when this government is rotten from the head, nothing will change.

Kathryn

Kind of reminds me of a movie I saw once involving a big ship in about 1912, where they rearranged the deckchairs but had the same outcome … hmmm

Steve!

My Gawd- When the chance was there to drop Worden completely, Fyles didn’t take it! Paech on his own is enough for the Government to lose the next election. What an absolute movement of deck chairs on a sinking ship.

Bring on August, Ill be the one in the CLP shirt working for a change to this circus.

Sean

what a joke this woman is could not organise anything and if she thinks this is a winning cabinet she is as delusional as she show she is

I like it

Mediawatch2020NT

There are some interesting gains and losses in this reshuffle.

Bernard

Excellent work Chief Minister! Right people in the right place at the right time!

Henry

The new look Labor ministry is THE BEST. I am excited at and exhilarated by the potential of these very capable people, to carry out the significant work of government. We are blessed by good government, how lucky we are.
