A TEENAGE girl was taken to hospital reportedly with a chipped vertebrae and further injuries following a violent brawl at TIO Stadium.

About 12.30pm emergency services were called after a fight erupted in the stadium carpark following the under-18s girl’s game between St Mary’s and Wanderers on Saturday.

The 17-year-old was treated for “minor injuries” by St John at the scene.

However, the NT News can confirm the St Mary’s player was privately taken to hospital.

It is understood her injuries include a chipped vertebrae and could further include a concussion and soft tissue damage.

It’s also understood a disagreement between girls on both teams began during the match before escalating to the carpark afterwards.

A witness at the scene told the NT News the player sustained a “concussion and soft tissue damage to her head and neck”.

The witness held grave concerns for the player’s mental wellbeing as well as physical.

NT Police said the incident involved a large group including players and spectators.

The game began at 10.45am, with St Mary’s winning 10.20.80 to 1.1.7.

A post by St Mary’s on social media on Saturday evening – hours after the alleged fight – commended the team for their efforts on the field leading to a victory.

“We are very proud of this group of young women for the way they conduct themselves on and off the field,” it read.

“Good luck in finals Saints.”

Police are calling for anyone who witnessed or filmed the incident, to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 000.
