THE Department of the Attorney-General and Justice has “no plan to terminate anyone” despite being told to identify $1.58 million in budget efficiencies this year, a budget estimates hearing has revealed.

During questioning at Parliament House this morning, Justice Department chief executive Greg Shanahan said they had not planned to make any staff cuts this year despite being directed by Treasury to identify $1.58 million in efficiencies across the department, including corrections.

“There’s no specific targeted jobs or anything at this point but as we go through that whole process it might well be that some positions may no longer be required,” he said.
