A RESIDENT who lives close to where a body was found in a northern suburb’s creek said the area often flooded during heavy periods of rain.

A body was found submerged in a small creek in Lyons, near the Royal Darwin Hospital site at 7pm on Thursday.

Police and emergency services have remained on the scene since.

Nearby neighbour Danielle Seats said she had often seen people playing in dangerous flood waters.

“We’ve seen a bunch of people on the bridge when there’s water rushing through it,” she said.

“That’s the first thing I thought (a possible drowning) because we’ve had so much rain it would have been pretty much full.”

“In the Wet season the whole park floods like a big pond.”

A morgue van was brought to the scene before a body was retrieved from the creek bed in a body bag.

Most emergency services have left the scene with a few police officers remaining to guard the area.
