NT News My First Year 2021 Funny Faces

THE NT News My First Year photos are now online, giving family a sneak peek at the smiling faces of their Transition kids.

They are faces filled with hope, optimism and a sense of adventure, knowing they are at a place where they will make friends and learn about the world around them.

My First Year, a special commemorative liftout of the NT News, has become an institution in the Northern Territory.

The keepsake edition of our paper is one of our biggest sellers of the year – for good reason.

Parents see their little ones in their flagship local paper, mostly for the first time.

This year, again, we are offering our digital subscribers an advance view of what will be published on September 22.

Right here, you can see the beautiful smiling faces of our Transition students.

My First Year will feature more than 2000 students.

There will be more than 140 photos.

Please note, while all schools were given the opportunity to submit photos for My First Year, not all chose to participate.

While parents will be able to see their children’s faces in our online galleries, we know they will want the printed edition of the paper as well on September 22.

We’ll be printing hundreds of extra copies of the paper for the day, as many parents like to get copies for grandparents and as a memento to dig out for 18th and 21st birthday parties.

We’d also love to hear from you if you have a My First Year photo from years ago.

Email your photo and story so we can share it with others to news@ntnews.com.au

Don’t miss out. Contact your nearest newsagent who will be more than happy to make sure you get your copy of your special family memento.

My First Year is free with your copy of the NT News on September 22.

But it’s not all serious stances when school photos are taken.

Sometimes you’ve got to be a bit silly too.

This was certainly the case at a few schools who had fun pulling funny faces.

St Joseph’s Catholic College in Katherine had a hard time getting a nice smiling photo of their transition kids.

Principal’s assistant Sarah Bretherton said the school liked to get their photo in a different location each year to vary it up and provide parents with a different snapshot to the formal photographer photos.

“We took 18 photos and we still couldn’t get a good one,” Ms Bretherton said.

“There’s something wrong with every single photo. In this one, one is poking their tongue out, in another, she’s lifting up her skirt.”

Ms Bretherton said the school had 15 students in the class but she imagined getting pictures of any students around that age would be hard.

“Everything’s a big adventure when you’re in transition,” she said.

See the video of funny faces above.

The liftout of all the smiling faces will be available within the NT News on September 22.
