A MOUNTAIN biker who went missing in the Darwin rural area on Monday made a lucky escape when he was rescued by a CareFlight helicopter yesterday.
The 68-year-old man went mountain biking on Monday afternoon, with police being informed when he didn’t return that night.
NT Police started a search with the Australian Defence Force, with CareFlight sending a helicopter with night vision capabilities.
After approximately an hour of searching with night vision goggles, a CareFlight crew nurse spotted the flashing red light from the man’s bicycle and found him in a flood plain.

She was winched down to assess the man who was alive and not seriously injured, but suffering from exhaustion and dehydration.
