More primary schools to offer three-year-olds childcare

A trial for preschool being offered to three-year-olds has been expanded to four further primary schools, with parents able to access 15 hours of free childcare a week.

A TRIAL for preschool being offered to three-year-olds has been expanded to four further primary schools, with parents able to access 15 hours of free childcare a week.

The $2.2m scheme has already been rolled out to primary schools at Berry Springs and Ludmilla.

Education Minister Lauren Moss said the program would be rolled out to two further Darwin schools as well as in Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.

Ms Moss said the government would look closely at data and children outcomes when enrolled in early childhood education.

“This is about informing the whole way we look at government policy going forward.”

She said the quality of early learning helped determined a person’s success as far as Year 12.
