Michelin foodies meet with Alice Springs KFC franchisee Sam Edelman

THE plucky mission to get one of the world’s most remote KFC stores a Michelin star has ended with a meeting with the top taste testers in the world

THE plucky mission to get one of the world’s most remote KFC stores a Michelin star has ended with a meeting with the top taste testers in the world.

Alice Springs KFC franchisee Sam Edelman was last week sent to Paris to pitch to the foodies at Michelin why his outback fast food store should be considered for a Michelin star.

Mr Edelman Michelin Guides’s international director he Gwendal Poullennec agreed to sit down for an interview and chat about his finger-licking original recipe chicken.

“He found the idea very entertaining. I think they’ve never been approached by a fast-food outlet before,” he said.

“He definitely didn’t give any indication that I would receive a Michelin star.

“I would like to think that through the media, that would put pressure on them to come into the Australian market.”

Mr Edelman said news of his attempt to get a star had made it to Michelin starred chefs in Paris, who were more than happy to share their secrets with him over a drink.

“We got to experience what the really fine side of French cuisine and the Michelin star is about. It didn’t change my belief that KFC is really good food,” he said.

During his stay he discovered the original KFC chicken recipe was not sold in France.

“I invited them to come to Alice Springs and sample the food at KFC,” he said.

Yesterday about 100 supporters headed to the Todd St restaurant to welcome back Mr Edelman after his week-long jaunt to Paris.
