Skylar Lawrence should be celebrating her third birthday this weekend — eating cake and unwrapping presents with her siblings.
Instead, Skylar’s twin Rhainer will celebrate the occasion for them both.
Skylar died on October 15 last year after falling victim to the insidious B strain of the meningococcal bacterial infection. Yesterday, the Lawrence family launched the Shareacino with Skylar campaign. About 50 cafes from across Australia joined in the movement. “Skylar loved babycinos, so we want parents who are out sharing a coffee to remember her, and to understand the risk,” mum Sally Lawrence said.
Ms Lawrence said her ultimate goal was to have the vaccine available to families for free as part of the Australian vaccination schedule. The family will head to Canberra later this year to campaign on a federal level.
“It’s a horrible disease and it needs to be stopped,” dad Ash Lawrence said.
