IT was the moment Katherine man Marc Gardner cast his mind back to the famous Crocodile Dundee movie.

COMING face-to-face with a massive bull buffalo at the southern entrance to Kakadu National Park, Marc Gardner cast his mind back to the famous Crocodile Dundee movie.

The Katherine man and his family sat quietly in their Toyota Prado as the big boy refused to move off the road.

“I was thinking back to Crocodile Dundee when Paul Hogan hypnotised a buffalo and I thought ‘gee, we’re going to have to do the same’,” Mr Gardner said of his encounter, which happened on Sunday.

“The big fella refused to move for about five minutes, he wasn’t going anywhere.”

Mr Gardner said the buffalo eventually moved off the Kakadu Highway as they waited in the car.

“The Prado is brand new so I certainly wasn’t keen to push the issue and try and get past him in case he charged us,” he said.

Living in the Territory for the past 10 years, Mr Gardner said he hadn’t seen a buffalo that big in Kakadu National Park.

“I’ve seen a few of them around Numbulwar over the years but none as big as this in Kakadu,” he said.

Mr Gardner also saw the irony in a warning sign about crocodiles when he took the photograph of the buffalo.

“I reckon they need to add buffaloes to the sign if they’re walking around the roads like this!” he joked.
