A major vaccination clinic could open an extra day to cater for surging demand for the Covid jab, while the NT government promises a new mass vaccination clinic by the start of July.

SURGING demand for the Covid-19 jab has seen both the NT government and Danila Dilba planning to open more capacity.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner on Monday said a new mass vaccination centre would be open by the July 1 in Darwin.

Mr Gunner made the announcement while revealing all Territorians over the age of 16 would be eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine.

“We will bring on a high volume clinic within the coming weeks,” he said.

“If we can, we’ll bring it on sooner.”

As the news of the vaccine shake-up broke, clinics such as Danila Dilba saw themselves inundated with calls.

A spokeswoman for Danila Dilba Health Service said at least one of their clinics would also open for an additional day in coming weeks.

“We’ve definitely got enough requests and enough demand to do a Saturday clinic,” she said.
