NT Police are seeking the drivers of two vehicles to come forward with potential information about a fatal motorbike crash.

On Sunday police released CCTV footage of Whitewood Road in Howard Springs, near where a 31-year-old motorcyclist died in a single-vehicle crash five days earlier.

It was alleged the man tried to overtake another vehicle at high speed before failing to navigate the intersection of Whitewood and Howard Springs roads.

He died at the scene just after 9.30pm Tuesday.

NT Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a fatal crash on Whitewood Road on Tuesday.
NT Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a fatal crash on Whitewood Road on Tuesday.

“Police believe the drivers of the vehicles captured on CCTV footage, travelling along Whitewood Road at the time of the crash, can assist with the investigation,” a statement said.

“The vehicles are described as a light-coloured utility with ladder rack on the front, and a 4WD vehicle with pod canopy.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have information to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 444. Please quote reference number 10481340.”

Northern Watch Commander Clinton Stewart said the road had reopened on Wednesday morning.

“The motorcycle has been removed from the scene … major crash will re-attend today to conduct measurements and further inquiries,” he said.

It came just days after a 59-year-old motorcyclist died in a single-vehicle crash south of Mataranka.

On September 29, a family of six were killed on the Stuart Highway in one of the worst road crashes in Territory history.

It is the second road incident at the intersection in the past two months, with a bushmaster carrying Timorese and Australian soldiers rolling at the same corner on August 30.

The NT’s road toll sits at 21, compared to 45 this time last year.

Mr Stewart said anecdotally, police notice an increase in road crashes at the start of the wet season.

“People just need to drive to the road and traffic conditions,” he said.
