UPDATE: A MAN suffered a cut to the head when a disgruntled patron returned to the Daly Waters Pub armed with a chainsaw after being ejected on Thursday night, the NT News can reveal.
Pub owner Tim Carter said the man had been kicked out after having one too many and “next minute, he come back with a chainsaw going”.
“(A man was injured) when he was waving it around but he ended up alright — he gave him a pretty good laceration across the head,” he said.
“The boys just sorted him out and bloody rang the Mataranka coppers and they ended up coming down and taking him back in the dog box.”
Mr Carter said staff ended up locking themselves in while they waited for police to arrive.
“You just never know do you?” he said.
“It could only happen in the NT”.
EARLIER: A DRUNK man has been arrested after allegedly threatening patrons at a busy pub with a chainsaw overnight.
Northern Watch Commander Sonia Kennon said the owner of the Daly Waters Pub called police last night around 11.30pm.
“He reported that there were approximately 200 people at the location, including a man who appeared to be by himself who had earlier been asked to leave the pub due to his level of intoxication.
“The male person later returned with a chainsaw and began threatening the remaining patrons, assaulting one of them causing minor injuries.”
She said one of the patrons successfully disarmed the man, and he was detained until police members from Mataranka arrived.
“Those members are currently investigating the incident, the male was arrested and is expected to be assessed by the local clinic due to his behaviour.”
