Major parties slam Territory Alliance fracking ban as political gamesmanship
THE NT Government and Opposition have slammed Territory Alliance’s pledge to ban fracking if it wins the August election as nothing more than political gamesmanship.

THE NT Government and Opposition have slammed Territory Alliance’s pledge to ban fracking if it wins the August election as nothing more than political gamesmanship.
Environment and Natural Resources Minister Eva Lawler said Mr Mills “cannot be trusted”.
“You cannot believe anything Terry Mills says he will do,” she said.
“He says one thing and does another — including increasing the cost of power by 30 per cent, sacking teachers and selling assets.”

Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro described the move as a “vote grab”.
“This is a clear backflip from Territory Alliance who are trying to be all things to all people at a time when Territorians are desperate for jobs and for certainty about our economic future — TA’s announcement today is purely political,” she said.
Ms Finocchiaro said she was untroubled by polling that showed a majority of Country Liberal Party voters were “strongly opposed” to fracking.

“What Territorians are telling us is they want certainty around what our economy looks like going forward,” she said.
“They want to know that we have industries such as gas that are going to leverage traditional fuel opportunities for our energy market that are going to lead into manufacturing and that, importantly, are going to create jobs.”
