DARWIN voters will head to the polls in February to elect a replacement for resigned alderman Sherry Cullen.
In October, Ms Cullen announced her immediate resignation from the council, due to a job offer in Queensland.
Given the next election is in 2021, a by-election will be held for Lyons Ward in February.
Many of the candidates could be unknown quantities and the change could see some teething problems for the council as it gets used to its newest member ahead of the election proper in 2021.
At the time of her resignation, Ms Cullen said her new position would make her part of a project team building a council administration building and local disaster centre in Queensland.
“New opportunities in my life, somewhat further away from this city than I had hoped, have presented themselves,” Ms Cullen said.
