CORRUPT former travel agent Xana Kamitsis has been released from prison to live under home detention at her luxury Bayview townhouse.
Kamitsis, the director of Latitude Travel, was released from Holtze prison on Friday after serving just 11 months of her three-year and 11-month jail term.
She is not yet eligible for her sentence to be suspended.
The Department of Corrections confirmed her release Monday morning shortly after the NT News visited the house and after questions were put to department spin doctor, David Harris.
Corrections Commissioner Mark Payne said Kamitsis applied for release on October 6.
“The application was granted following an assessment that determined that Kamitsis had met all relevant criteria under sections 131-136 of the Correctional Services Act 2014, had achieved an Open security classification, has been a model prisoner and does not represent a threat to the community,” he said.
Despite “strict” conditions, such as wearing an electronic ankle tag, home detention is considered a far less onerous form of detention than actual jail time.
Kamitsis is also banned from drinking or taking drugs, Corrections said in a statement.
