THE seat of Mulka, which the Labor Party has thrown one of its kitchen sinks at, was still in play at the end of counting last night.
Independent Mark Yingiya Guyula finished the night with 1883 votes and said he was very pleased but was concerned about votes still to come in.
Mr Guyula is running against Labor candidate Lynne Walker – who he won the seat from in 2016 by eight votes – who was on 1489 votes.
“I want to keep fighting for better outcomes for the people of Arnhem Land and beyond, for Yolngu and Balanda,” Mr Guyula said. “We will see what happens next week.”
Ms Walker did not return calls from the Sunday Territorian last night but Labor Party insiders say they are very confident outstanding votes will get her across the line.
