A DARWIN child care operator who spoke out about the challenges facing the industry in the COVID-19 pandemic has temporarily closed down.

La Creche on the Avenue posted on social media today the centre had closed but were hoping to reopen next week.

Childcare educators’ health ‘neglected’ by government, as enrolments plummet

Director Louise de Bomford-Scott told parents they were due to meet with the Department of Business tomorrow.

“We are aiming to open on Monday 20th April at 7.30am and operate as normal,” she said.

“I shall update you tomorrow after our meeting with the NT Department of Business.

All children who are currently enrolled will retain their usual days of enrolment and can return upon reopening; unless a request to cancel is received.”

Ms de Bomford Scott said she had worked closely with the Territory and Federal governments in a bid to avoid a closure.

Earlier this month Ms de Bomford-Scott told the NT News enrolments at the centre had dropped by more than 50 per cent, jeopardising the jobs of the centre’s 45 staff members.
