Pizza franchise raise over $6k for Kailah May’s family

Popular pizza chain raised thousands of dollars during their “doughraiser” for the May family.

DOMINO’S fundraiser for the May family raised nearly $6,500 on Wednesday to ease the financial burden of Kailah May’s tragic passing.

The “doughraiser” was held across five franchise stores across Darwin and donated $2 from every pizza sold with roughly over 3200 pizzas being sold on the day.

Kailah May tragically lost her life after having an epileptic seizure and was found by her younger brother and mum at the bottom of the family pool last month.

Domino’s Palmerston and Karama franchisee Alex Mahoney thanked the community for their support.

“I want to thank the entire Darwin Community for doing what we do best and banding together to show our support for the May family during this difficult time,” he said.

“Thanks to the support of the local community, together Domino’s Palmerston, Karama, Casuarina, Coolalinga and Darwin City raised more than $6,400 for the May family during our recent Doughraiser, which will help to ease some of the financial burden the family are facing during this time.

“The May family will also be donating a portion of the funds raised to Epilepsy Australia in honour of Kailah.”

Meanwhile, the Darwin community took to social media to share #kailahmayepilepsyawareness after purchasing pizza to support the May family on Wednesday.

Posts include pictures of pizza boxes and pizza with the hashtag.

Local businesses also joined the support by posting a photo of pizza’s purchased in honour of Kailah and her family.

Real Estate Central wrote that the company “had a delicious and meaningful lunch” after supporting the doughraiser.

Hawthorn star raises thousands in honour of beloved cousin

HAWTHORN midfielder Tom Mitchell has raised more than $3000 in honour of his cousin Kailah May, who tragically passed away last month.

Kailah lost her life after having an epileptic seizure in the family’s swimming pool.

Her cousin Mitchell, the 2018 Brownlow Medallist, honoured her life and raised awareness of epilepsy by offering up his signed boots worn at the Hawthorn v Gold Coast Suns match at TIO Stadiumon May 28.

He has set up a donations page on Epilepsy Foundation Australia, with every donation over $20 to go in the running to receive the boots.

Mr Mitchell raised $3,530 for the foundation with more than 93 people donating across the country.

All of the proceeds will go to the foundation to help people battling epilepsy.

“I want tot thank the Darwin community, along with the wider football community for the ongoing support in honouring Kailah’s life,” Mr Mitchell said.

“I hope others who are impacted by epilepsy can continue to be supported through Kailah’s legacy.

“Thank you to everyone that has supported this effort,” Mitchell said, on the fundraiser page.

“I am very grateful for the support that you have shown to my family & myself and supporting everyone whose life is impacted by epilepsy.”

The donations page closed on June 1 and the winner from Greenvale, Victoria was notified.

Businesses rally to support May family

KAILAH May’s family have had endless support from the community, with a major franchise wanting to help support them through this tragic period.

Domino’s stores are teaming up across the Territory after hearing the story and loss of a young “beautiful and talented” woman.

Five stores including Palmerston, Karama, Casuarina, Coolalinga and Darwin City will donate $2 from every pizza sold from each store to the May family on Wednesday.

Kailah tragically passed away a few weeks ago, after having an epileptic seizure and was found by her brother and mum at the bottom of the family’s swimming pool.

She was farewelled by her family, friends and the community at a funeral service held at St Mary’s Sea Of The Cathedral last Friday.

In a social media post, Domino’s Pizza Palmerston said they wanted to help the family in this tough time.

“(We are) very proud to love and work in our community, and know that together, we can help ease some of the burden on the May family during this extremely difficult time,” the post said.

“We will be holding a ‘Doughraiser’ to raise some much needed funds to help ease some of the financial burden on the family during this time.

“I can’t imagine what they are going through right now, and myself and the other Darwin Domino’s stores wat to do everything we can to help.

“(We) would appreciate any support you can offer to help raise awareness and much-needed finds for the May family.”

The “Doughraiser” will start at 11am till close on Wednesday June 1.
