JOCKEYS Wayne Davis, Alice Lindsay and Sonja Wiseman were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital after a fall at the Fannie Bay racecourse on Wednesday.
The fall occurred off the turn in $20,000 race three bet365 Class 2 Handicap (1100m) with Davis riding Phil Cole’s Somervell, Lindsay riding Gary Clarke’s Jomera and Wiseman riding Rodney Robb’s Supreme Times.
The three riders remained conscious following the fall though weren’t without their pains, with Davis confessing a lower back pain, Lindsay suffering hand and wrist pains and Wiseman having pains in the leg and back.
Thoroughbred Racing NT chief executive Andrew O’Toole said his thoughts were with the jockeys who were all in a stable condition following the fall.
They’re all conscious, stable and taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for further testing which is a good sign,” O’Toole said.
“It looked like the horses clipped heels at the turn off the back with about 650m to go but that’s something that the stewards will determine.
“This is something we didn’t need in Cup Week. Our thoughts are with the riders. We don’t like losing riders at any time and as those three came down they won’t be riding this weekend.”
It was the Darwin Corporate Park Race Day at the Darwin Turf Club on Wednesday.
