DARWIN’S market scene has grown more diverse with the opening of a new outlet.

The Village Central Markets at Jape Homemaker Village is an indoor market and playground.

Jape Homemaker Village centre manager Terence Jape said goal was to help small businesses get started and give Territorians with a new place to relax.

“It’s tough for someone just starting to sign up for a one year or five year lease,” he said.

“Our concept gives the opportunity to have something like a stall, without that commitment and risk.”

Businesses can lease a space for a day or longer depending on availability.

With six stalls so far and the capacity for between 30 and 40, Mr Jape hoped within a year for the market to become a Darwin staple.

“Our goal is to run this five days a week and provide a place for parents to relax and bring their kids,” he said.
