TERRY Mills’ fledgling coservative group is now an official party.

Territory Alliance was announced as an official party by secretary Dr Danial Kelly on ABC Radio.

“It’s very exciting, it’s a new era in Territory politics,” he said.

“We can contest the next northern Territory election … as a party we can field candidates in any electorate that we want and we have the status of a registered party.”

Dr Kelly said the party had Territorian’s best interests at heart.

“We need to restore confidence in Government,” he said.

“We have to have a Government that people have sufficient trust in so that when Government make decisions, the people are convinced that actually, this is the best thing for all of us collectively. And at the moment we don’t have that.”

TERRY Mills’ new party nears membership threshold

In September Dr Kelly told the NT News Territory Alliance had about 130 members a week prior to registrations opening.

Now Dr Kelly said the party boasted more 300 members, with new candidates to be announced in about two weeks.

“People who are going to be announced as candidates come from a fantastic variety of backgrounds and reflect the membership,” he said.

“Some people who used to be involved in different political parties, some people who have never been involved in a political party before.”

He said the party did not have federal aspirations.

“Our heart is for the Northern Territory,” he said.

“We love this place. This is where we live, this is where our families have grown up. We love it, we want to restore the Northern Terriroty to the wonderful times we’ve experienced in the past.

“We need some solutions. We need to get government healthy again, so that’s our focus.”

Dr Kelly however said Territory Alliance has big aspirations locally, with the party hoping to win 13 or more seats at the upcoming Territory election.

“What I honstly believe is that neither Labor or CLP will get enough seats to form government in their own right,” he said.

“And I’m hopeful and I think it’s possible Territory Alliance will pick up enough seats to be one of the three major parties.”
