THE Northern Territory welcomed a grand total of zero people travelling to the jurisdiction on international student visas in July, as new data shows border closures have cut dramatically cut down on overseas arrivals.

Australian Bureau of Statistics overseas arrival data, released on Friday, revealed there was a 99.7 per cent fall in the number of people travelling to the Northern Territory for a short trip – that is, to stay less than year – in July compared to the same month the year before.

A total of 30 short-term visitors, possibly army personnel travelling to train as part of joint US-Australia military exercise, came in July.

There were 50 instances of Territorians coming back from overseas in July — a decrease of 99.4 per cent compared to July 2019.
