Territory brand House of Darwin has found a new home in Darwin’s CBD.
The NT News sat down with Darwin local and label founder Shaun Edwards to discuss the new location and his plans for 2025 and beyond.
Upon entering the store, customers are greeted by a sensory immersion.
House of Darwin incense smoulders slowly, aromatic smoke rising in the air.
A large screen projects products, profiles, models and scenery – all capturing the spirit of this unique Territory brand.
A bright red sound system plays a soothing mix of soul and funk music.
“The sound system is actually 100 per cent designed and fabricated in the Northern Territory,” Mr Edwards said.
“We pulled the amps out of old ABC mixes from Bagot Community and had them fabricated by a local carpenter in Coolalinga.”
The sound system, like much of the store, is keeping it local.
“We try to create as close to a 100 per cent NT designed retail concept that reflects both House of Darwin and the Northern Territory landscape,” Mr Edwards says.
Although Mr Edwards misses some of the ‘quirkiness’ of his old Air Raid Arcade location, he is glad to have made the ‘pivotal jump’ to 2/20 Knuckey St in Darwin.
“This is actually the old Delaney’s store,” he explains.
“It feels nostalgic to be able to move into what was once the iconic Delaney’s store.”
Like Delaney’s, House of Darwin strives to capture the essence of the Territory and its distinct lifestyle through its modern branding and products.
These products are set to go international with two collaborations upcoming.
“We have a collaboration with Merrell coming out - our second footwear collaboration,” he says.
“We will also launch into the USA through a collab with an adventure brand in March. Super exciting stuff.”
House of Darwin is more than just a fashion brand, Mr Edwards said.
“We beautify and restore basketball courts out in remote communities through Hoop Dreams. We’ve done five courts now.
“It’s one thing to buy a t-shirt or a product, but it’s also important to know that it helps grow the story of the NT and gives back to places in the NT.”
House of Darwin’s new location has already opened with a soft launch this week.
The grand opening will take place on Friday, November 29.
The event will be followed by one of House of Darwin’s famous dance events featuring Melbourne DJs Wax’o Paradiso at Bustard Town that night.
