'The CLP is back': Country Liberal's win back five seats in NT election

CLP’S Ian Sloan says he was fortunate to have the support of retiring MLA Gary Higgins in his quest for victory in Daly.

The Berry Springs Tavern owner is expected to succeed Mr Higgins in the seat after widening his lead against Labor’s Anthony Venes to 98 votes.

Mr Venes also ran in the 2016 election but lost by 141 votes.

Mr Sloan said the past few months of campaigning had been a “massive learning curve” for him.

“I’d like to thank all of those that have supported me and volunteered your time, experience and advice. A huge thank you to everyone who has sent messages and called in the past few days.

“Although the numbers look positive we are still waiting for the remaining postal votes to be counted.”
