It comes after two young boys from Tasmania ran away from the camp last October and hitchhiked and walked all the way to the Darwin airport before being picked up by police.

The Tasmanian government is paying $274,000 per child per year for the NT program, which, uses tough love techniques for children who are not suited to mainstream programs.

Tasmania’s Human Services Minister Roger Jaensch recently said he would send a senior staffer to the NT to check on the welfare of six Tassie children at the bootcamp while the state “looks into” the program.

It is understood no Territory kids are currently placed at the camp.
