A BELOVED milkwood tree that survived Cyclone Tracy was struck down by today’s severe winds and rain.
Wayne Patten was parked in his driveway on Leichardt Street, Fannie Bay when the towering tree began to fall.
“I was sitting here waiting for the rain to stop so that I could drive up the driveway,” he said.
“I watched it come down at me. Very slowly it just came straight down.
“It breaks my heart because it was a feature of the property. It had a piece of tin from Cyclone Tracy in it.”

The Fannie Bay resident said he had fond memories of the milkwood.
“I was sitting on the veranda one day and some people came up and parked here and they were looking up at the house,” Mr Patten said.
