Holy Spirit School in Casuarina was bursting with colour, laughter, and community spirit on Friday as students and staff came together to celebrate YOU CAN SIT WITH ME Day.
The special event was dedicated to promoting kindness, inclusion and friendship among the school community, as well as stamp out bullying and anti-social behaviours.
Holy Spirit principal Paula Sellars transformed the school oval into a vibrant fun fair to mark the occasion complete with a dunking machine, water slide and bouncy castle.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement and joy as children of all ages came together to celebrate the values of kindness, empathy and unity.
Mrs Sellars said she was proud of how the school community, from the early learning centre to Year 6, embraced the spirit of the day and got around each other for it.
“It was a joyful celebration of what makes Holy Spirit so special, our inclusive heart,” she said.
YOU CAN SIT WITH ME day is part of a wider national movement founded 10 years ago by teacher Sophie Sparks.
The cause originated as wearing a yellow wristband as a signal of kindness and has now become a powerful symbol in schools across Australia.
“It’s wonderful to see YOU CAN SIT WITH ME sweep across the NT tackling school refusal, school attendance and creating kinder communities,” Ms Sparks said.
Currently there are 23 schools in the Top End affiliated with the cause as well several Oosh and early learning centres.
The cause was also supported by the Southern Districts Football Club in the most recent NTFL season to further present their anti-bullying advocacy.
