EARLIER: IF you’re after a pash to bring in the New Year make sure you know the other person first, is the advice from Chief Minister Michael Gunner.

New Year’s Eve is set to be a thriller with plenty of entertainment, including fireworks, set to take place on the Waterfront while pubs, bars and nightclubs are also gearing up for the festivities.

After the year we’ve had from Covid to cyclones we all deserve to send out the year in style and welcome what we all hope to be a more uplifting 2022.

And while there’s plenty you can do to enjoy yourself there’s also a couple of things you should keep in mind before going out, including who you’re locking lips with come midnight.

“I feel as a dad that if you have a pash at midnight you should probably know the person,” Mr Gunner said.

“And if you know them, pash them.

“But if you don’t know them there’s probably a few things you have to ask about first, even before Covid.”

And if you do decide to head out to enjoy yourself there’s a few things you need to keep in mind:

● Do check-in at venues you head to even if we’re not in lockout/lockdown.

● Don’t go out if you’re feeling unwell.

● Don’t drink and drive, no one’s going to begrudge anyone a drink but leave your car behind and take a taxi instead.

● And do have a good time whether that means pashing a stranger ot not.

“Territorians are the best, you were bloody outstanding in 2021,” Mr Gunner said.

“Whether you are going out for a frothy or staying home for a quiet one on New Years, you’ve earned it.

“How to be a good Territorian this New Years: Check in, buy local, don’t skip your round.”

What’s on across the NT on New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is set to be thriller with plenty of entertainment including fireworks set to take place on the Waterfront while pubs, bars and nightclubs are also gearing up for the festivities.

And after the year we’ve had from Covid to an almost Christmas Day cyclone we all deserve to send out the year in style and welcome in what we all hope to be a more uplifting 2022.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner encouraged Territorians to go out and enjoy themselves on New Year’s Eve.

“Territorians are the best. You were bloody outstanding in 2021,” Mr Gunner said.

“Whether you are going out for a frothy or staying home for a quiet one on New Years, you’ve earned it.

“How to be a good Territorian this New Years: Check in, buy local, don’t skip your round.”

Here’s what you need to know about what’s happening across the NT:

DARWIN

The Darwin Waterfront is going to be the place to be on New Year’s Eve with a stellar line-up ready to send out the year in the biggest celebrations in the Territory.

Eight time Aria award winning singer Amy Shark will headline the line-up but she won’t be alone with The Veronicas, Conrad Sewell and Disco Polenta with Natalie Pellegrino and Shalom Kaa also taking to the stage.

There’s plenty for the kids to enjoy as well with everyone’s favourite Blue Heeler, Bluey, and a performance from the full crew of Nickelodeon’s Paw Patrol sure to entertain.

Gates open at 3.30pm with the family fun kicking off at 5.30pm and ten minute firework spectaculars igniting at both 9pm and midnight.

And that’s not all with the clubs and pubs of Darwin also getting into the action with a crazy line-up of DJs at Monsoons, live music at The Cavenagh Hotel, The Precinct and Shennanigans and an ultimate pool competition at Hotel Darwin.

Or if you’re looking for a slightly different view of the fireworks you could head on-board the New Year’s Eve VIP Yacht at Sail Darwin or instead head to the Mindil Beach Casino.

And over in Palmerston the atmosphere will be buzzing at the Landmark at Gateway with free entry and a multitude of DJs on all night long from 6pm to 4am.

ALICE SPRINGS

The New Year is going to come in with a splash in Alice Springs with the Aquatic & Leisure Centre offering free entry from 5.30pm to 9.30pm on New Year’s Eve.

The free event offers giant inflatables, waterslides, free BBQ and plenty of fun activities for everyone to dive into.

Also that evening there will be plenty of live music at Club Eastside with local legend Call me Dan set to take to the stage while plenty of food and drink will be on offer.
