UPDATE: A MAN reported missing in the Barkly region for over two days has reportedly walked back into his community following a major search effots.
Harold Morton, 47, was reported missing in the Barkly region on Tuesday.
NT Police and local community members launched a land search of surrounding bushland from the community of Alpurrurulam after police received the report Mr Morton had been missing for a 24 hour period.
Police aerial search efforts today, with the assistance of community trackers and search teams, followed his tracks throughout the day until it was learned he had walked back into the community at 2:45 this afternoon.
Mr Morton will be taken to the local clinic for a medical assessment after spending more than two days in remote bushland.
EARLIER: A 47-YEAR-OLD man has been reported missing in the Barkly region, with police calling for any information to be reported urgently.
Police were notified on Tuesday morning Harold Morton had walked off into bushland from remote community Alpurrurulam just before 12pm on Monday.
Mr Morton, an Aboriginal man with a slim build, was wearing a blue sleeveless shirt, blue shorts and thongs, and was last seen walking towards the airstrip by community members on Monday morning.
Residents attempted to track Mr Morton by following his footsteps, but stopped the search after becoming fatigued.
Police are concerned for Mr Morton’s welfare, as it is unknown if he had any food or water provisions. Temperatures in the area are were expected to drop to 12C on Tuesday night.
An air and land search of the area began on Tuesday afternoon, and additional tracking skills by an Aboriginal Community Police Officer from Tennant Creek, will assist members with the search.
Police cannot rule out Mr Morton could have been picked up by a passing vehicle.
