KATHERINE’S only private medical clinic, Gorge Health, is set to shut by the end of October, with the regional town struggling to attract employees.
The Katherine Times reported a number of other reasons were behind the closure, which will see the clinic not renew their lease in November, included a failure to modernise Medicare from the Australian Government.
Meanwhile understaffing, which saw just two general practice doctors working at the clinic, had become so severe some patients had to wait several weeks to see a doctor.
The closure means locals will now have to attend the emergency department at Katherine Hospital, exclusively rely on telehealth services or to travel to Darwin to receive treatment following the closures.
