He said Gangs Taskforce officers found Mr Viney on Tuesday and had carriage of the investigation for that reason.

Riders Awareness NT – an advocacy group for NT motorcyclists – shared the news on its Facebook page on Thursday and asked its members to spare a thought for Mr Viney and his loved ones.

President Nim Jayawardhana said he didn’t know what could have caused the crash.

But he said Mr Viney’s death was sad news for the NT motorcyclist community and was a reminder for riders to take care on the road.

“(Bikers) are trying to be supportive of each other and to encourage each other to take care when they’re out there riding,” he said.
