From Dom’s Bar to the Larrimah Wayside Inn, here’s every venue disciplined by the NT Liquor Commission in the last financial year

From noise complaints to being found ‘not fit and proper’ to hold a liquor licence, these are the businesses who found themselves in front of the Liquor Commission for all the wrong reasons.

VENUES found themselves disciplined by the NT Liquor Commission 11 times over the last financial year, documents show.

According to the commission’s 2020-21 Annual Report, tabled in parliament in late November, a number of prominent hospitality venues found themselves fined or unable to serve alcohol for a period of time.

They include:

Two matters related to Dom’s Bar in Nightcliff in February 2021, in which the commission upheld complaints of “undue and unreasonable noise” and “licensee intentionally engaged in conduct that resulted in a contravention of a condition of licence”.

The bar was hit with changes to its liquor licence forcing it to take action to address noise issues.

Coolalinga Tavern was also hit with a monetary fine of 22 penalty units for contravening its licence, but also had a noise complaint dismissed.

Larrimah Wayside Inn had to suspend its takeaway trade for five days in August for not properly checking the identification of individuals before selling them alcohol.

A complaint that the eclectic Larrimah business sold alcohol prior to its permitted selling hours was also upheld.

Howard Springs Tavern was find $474 for not properly checking the ID of a customer before selling them alcohol.

Humpty Doo Tavern likewise was caught out not properly checking ID, and was suspended from takeaway sales for 24 hours.

Anthony Habib, who held the liquor licence for Bojangles, was found by the NT Liquor Commission of being “not a fit and proper person to hold the licence”.

The liquor licence was cancelled and Mr Habib is disqualified from holding a liquor licence for a ten-year period.

PINT Club Incorporated had its liquor licence altered to address noise complaints after the Liquor Commission upheld a complaint around noise levels, and failed to comply with “Special Conditions” of its liquor licence.

Yulara-based BK Graham Pty Ltd, otherwise known as SEIT Outback Australia, was fined $3160 because it “failed to disclose persons of influence and potential beneficiaries”.

Plaza Tavern Karama copped an eight-hour takeaway trade suspension after a complaint about 46 breaches of the regulation requiring businesses to properly scan the ID of customers.

Halikos Hospitality Pty Ltd was also stung with an eight-hour suspension for 25 breaches of not scanning the identification of customers properly. Halikos operate Lizards and the Frontier Hotel.
