Flu cases jump by 68 in just seven days across the Territory

THE Territory has recorded a dramatic drop in he number of flu cases recorded, but hospitalisations continue to climb.

Just 68 cases were recorded in the past week, while the number of people in hospital with the flu increased from four to 13 in the same time.

So far this year 772 patients have been admitted to hospital and five lives claimed by the illness.

Of the total cases recorded, 2654 were in the Top End, 699 in Central Australia, 504 in East Arnhem, 476 in the Big Rivers region, 320 in Barkly, and 152 are interstate visitors.

Eleven remain under investigation.

FLU STATS: JULY 8

THE rise in flu cases has lessened in the past seven days, with only 113 cases confirmed in the most recent reporting period.

The slight rise in cases brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Territory for 2022 to 4748.

Of the cases recorded this year, the Top End region has reported 2619 cases, 697 in Central Australia, 496 in East Arnhem, 458 in the Big Rivers region and 319 in the Barkly region.

A further 147 cases were recorded from interstate, while 12 are under investigation.

The number of people in hospital with a confirmed case of the flu has declined to four, with one patient in the ICU.

To date, there have been five deaths of people with the flu in the NT.

About 67,608 Territorians have received their flu vaccine in 2022.

FLU cases have jumped by 284 in the past seven days, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Territory for 2022 to 4635.

Of the cases recorded this year, the Top End region recorded 2574 cases, 690 in Central Australia, 478 in East Arnhem, 427 in the Big Rivers region, 315 in the Barkly region and 141 from interstate.

A further 10 cases are under investigation.

There are nine people in hospital with confirmed cases of the flu but there are no patients in ICU.

To date, there have been five deaths of people with the flu in the NT.

About 64,800 Territorians have received their flu vaccine in 2022.

The flu vaccine is available to people aged 65 or over, children between six months and five years of age, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people over six months, anyone with a chronic medical condition and pregnant women.
