NINE people around the Territory were allegedly caught drink driving this weekend, with one also busted for doing a burnout.
NT Duty Superintendent Tony Deutrom said five drivers were busted in Alice Springs, two in Tennant Creek, and one each in Darwin and Palmerston.
“The breath alcohol concentration readings were between 0.094 and 0.227,” he said.

“One of those also was a fail to supply a sufficient sample, and the last one which occurred late last night in Alice Springs also included a drive during a burnout, so his vehicle was seized for 48 hours as well.”
Southern Watch Commander Shaun Furniss said the burnout incident happened about 8.30pm yesterday.
“A 31-year-old man was driving a silver Holden Sedan west on Larapinta Dr near Nicker Cres,” he said.
“At this point the driver performed a burnout with a sustained loss of traction by the rear wheels emitting substantial smoke that covered the area. Unfortunately for him, a police patrol was only about 150m behind when this occurred.

“The vehicle was apprehended in Kidman St. Upon speaking to the driver he appeared intoxicated and a breath test confirmed this.”
He returned a reading of 0.121, and it was found he was currently unlicensed.
His car was impounded for 48 hours. He was charged with conducting a burnout, medium range drink driving and driving unlicensed.
