DARWIN resident Koirala Chhitiz had to pull up short when he went to cast a line on Monday morning – there was a croc lurking one metre from the shore.
“I stayed in the grassed area [after I saw the croc]. I go down to that spot to fish regularly but it’s the first time I’ve seen a croc in that spot.
“Last time I saw one was in the harbour, but it wasn’t near the Deckchair Cinema. Now I’ll be careful next time. It’s rare to see them in the Dry Season.”
He said it was roughly 1.6 meters long, but couldn’t see the whole length of the tail.
He also said he didn’t catch any fish … maybe the croc got to them first?
Be Crocwise and avoid going near the edge of the water.
Always stand at least 5m from the water’s edge when fishing.
Do not paddle, clean fish, prepare food or wash at the water’s edge or from the side of a boat.
