Tributes for Damian Taylor who died in a Good Friday Finke bike collision

A 27-year-old man who died in a collision at Finke Track has been remembered as a ‘a kind man who lived life to the full’. Read the tributes here.

Family and friends of Damian Taylor, the 27-year-old who died tragically in a quad bike collision on Good Friday, have rallied to give the “go getter” a fitting farewell.

Emergency services were called to Finke Track, near Alice Springs, about 4pm on Friday, after being notified of a collision between a motorbike and quad bike.

The quad bike rider was declared dead at the scene while the 24-year-old male motorcycle rider was taken to Alice Springs Hospital in a serious condition before being transported to South Australia for additional treatment.

The NT police major crash investigation unit is looking into the incident.

Anja Taylor confirmed on Facebook on Saturday the victim was her 27-year-old son Damian ‘Damo’ Taylor.

“We miss him so terribly already,” she posted.

“We have the other rider in our thoughts.

“RIP our beautiful son … love you forever and more mum and dad xxxx.”

Mr Taylor had just registered his contracting business Damian Taylor contracting in September 2022, and was listed as an Alice Springs Enduro Series Racer on a local businesses website.

A GoFundMe has been created by Mr Taylor’s cousins, Jesse-Leigh and Karina, to help fund his “final goodbye”.

“Our beautiful Damo was definitely one of a kind,” they wrote.

“He touched the lives of every single soul around him.

“With his cheeky sense of humour, his giggly laugh, he was always up for a banter.

“Damo was always living his life to the absolute fullest, was always a go getter, nothing could ever stop him, nothing was ever to big or too small for our Damo.

“When you needed him, he was there.

“We are devastated and still coming to terms with what has happened.”

They said the GoFundMe was created to relieve financial stress on Mr Taylor’s parents and “beautiful” wife Lea.

It had raised more than $6000 in less than 24 hours by 10am on Monday.

Jack Thomsen posted he could “only wish” to catch up with the young business owner “one last time”.

“Love you bro and rest in peace. time to have some rum and cokes for you brother!!!”

Karina Beck posted that she would miss her “handsome Cuzzy” forever.

“I don’t have the words right now, but we are shattered.

“We love you mate.

“Miss you forever.”

Cyndi Coffey Schultz posted that Mr Taylor was “the best son-in-law I could have asked for”.

“My heart is broken.

“Please keep the Taylor family in your thoughts and prayers.”

The Northern Territory Tenpin Bowling Association posted a tribute to Mr Taylor on Tuesday, sending its heartfelt condolences to the family.

“Damian was married to his soulmate Lea and we extend our heartfelt condolences to Lea as she comes to terms with the loss of her loving husband,” the association said.

“The family is well known in tenpin bowling and in the Alice Springs community and we also extend condolences to Mel, BJ, Karina and Jeff, and Jesse-Leigh on the loss of their nephew and much loved cousin, all of whom have been part of the NT tenpin bowling family.

“Damian was a husband, a son, a brother, a grandson, a son in law, a nephew, a cousin and a friend to many -(he) is remembered as a kind man who lived life to the full, and who would do anything to help anyone.”
