The court heard Farmer was driving home on Dick Ward Drive, Fannie Bay, after dropping family off on the evening of June 7 this year.
He was pulled over for a breath test and blew a blood alcohol reading of 0.108.
According to the statement of agreed facts, tendered in court, Farmer told police he had drunk “eight or nine beers” before driving.
Farmer’s lawyer, Peter Maley, told the court his client was a well-respected member of the Tiwi Islands community, who was set to recommence his position as Tiwi Land Council Chairman.
“He stood aside while he participated in the most recent Territory election … he only missed out by 140 votes,” Mr Maley said.
“He will return to the Land Council this week.
“He was dropping people home who had turned up at his doorstep.”
