UPDATE 4pm: NORTHERN Territory Police are calling for information in relation to an unlawful entry at the Alice Springs rail yards overnight.

“Just before 4am, unknown offenders gained entry to a shipping container in the rail yards on Whittaker Street and removed and damaged a number of parcels and caused criminal damage to a nearby train carriage,” a PFES statement stated.

“Police are calling for anyone with information in relation to this incident, to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and reference PROMIS number 9408508.”

EARLIER: AN EMPLOYEE rocking up for work at the Alice Springs railway yard has disturbed a break-in overnight.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Darryl Kerr said concerns had been raised about 4am.

“A worker rocking up for work has noticed a torch light in the distance, he’s done a check and one of the containers has been broken into,” he said.

“At this stage we won’t know what’s been stolen until they do an audit.”

He said police were also called to the Larapinta area where about 4.10am a victim disturbed two offenders inside their house.

“(They were) two Aboriginal males aged about 17. It appears they stole a bag and some keys,” he said.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
