One of Darwin’s smallest suburbs is muscling into the fitness space, with a new gym preparing to open and another set for a major rebrand.
With fewer than 100 houses and the Territory’s major shopping centre at its core, by year’s end Casuarina will have two ‘new’ gyms.
Edge Health Club will rebrand into a World Gym early next year, and a star tenancy at the new Aquatic and Leisure Centre is expected to commence later this year.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis announced this week that Club Lime would operate a new 24/7 gym at the refurbished pool, which opened in July, months earlier than expected.
The new gym, which is likely to be opened during the Wet, will complement facilities at the aquatic centre, including the 3x3 basketball court.
“The Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre has been incredibly well received by the community since it opened, and we are thrilled to provide another health and wellness option for the community to enjoy,” he said.
“The new Club Lime gym is perfect for people looking to stay active and will be open 24/7 so that you can fit a workout in at a time that suits.
“The gym provides a convenient option for parents or carers whose children might be taking part in one of our learn to swim programs, or who are simply enjoying one of the three sparkling pools on offer,” he said.
Viva Leisure Senior general manager Ross Sutherland said the new centre will be Darwin’s fifth Club Lime.
“As part of the new modern Aquatic and Leisure Centre we intend to immerse ourselves into the community and support our members on their fitness journey,” they said.
“We would like to thank City of Darwin for allowing us to be part of a hub for the local community and we very much look forward to meeting new people from the local area.
“The club itself will have state of the art equipment and cater to all people whether they are a newcomer to the gym or an experienced gym goer. We are an inclusive brand and would encourage everyone to come and check us out.”
Edge Health Club will become the Territory’s second World Gym when its rebrand is complete.
The 20-year-old gym was a pioneer of the sector in the Top End and has been under continuous ownership throughout that time.
