AFTER “a few drinks”, a Territory woman decided to go for a swim on Monday in crocodile-infested waters at Scotts Creek in the Djukbinj National Park.
Her friend Isha Yilmaz, who had also been drinking, stood back while her friend went for a splash around in the water.
“She said that doing this kind of thing is the best part of being a Territorian,” Ms Yilmaz said. “We know for a fact that there’s crocs in there. The rangers said that they’d caught a five-metre croc there.”
Ms Yilmaz, 40, from Humpty Doo, said she was scared for her friend.
“I just thought ‘oh my God’,” she said.

“But she just thought it was a bit of a laugh.”
Ms Yilmaz is a regular visitor to the area, where she goes fishing and hunting, and said she had seen crocodiles attack water buffalo in the area.
A 4m saltie has been found in the area previously, having been shot in the head by rogue hunters.
Ms Yilmaz said that while hunting in the area, she had seen crocodile tracks along the river banks, indicating the presence of large “man-eaters” in the area.
“There’s no way you’d catch me going in the water.”
