DARWIN commercial drone services company Skymaxâ is flying high over a key new multi-year services agreement with oil and gas giant Inpex.
Skymax will deliver a wide range of industrial asset inspection and survey services using drone technology to the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG onshore facilities.
Inpex Onshore Implementation manager Mark Wilson said drones minimise the need for Inpex and its contractors to work at heights for maintenance inspections.

“The drone technology is innovating how we work and making it safer for our people so we are really pleased to partner with a local Darwin business on this contract,” Mr Wilson said.
Skymax chief executive officer Max Lye said being at the helm of cutting-edge technology has reaped rewards for his company.
“We are constantly working hard to keep up with technology as it evolves, so our team continues to grow and deliver innovative solutions for clients,” Mr Lye said. “To be selected from a highly competitive list of local, national and international businesses is a major win for us.
“We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the Inpex team to safely deliver drone technology solutions at the Ichthys LNG onshore facilities.”
Alongside expanding the use of innovative drone technology at the Ichthys LNG onshore facilities, Skymax plans to expand and upskill its local workforce to support the multi-year contract.

The Skymax contract reinforces Inpex’s commitment to deliver work for local companies. Inpex’s general manager NT, Roland Houareau, says Australia is a cornerstone of Inpex’s international growth.
“Inpex is committed to contributing to the communities in which we operate and nowhere is this commitment stronger than in Darwin,” Mr Houareau said.
“We are committed to a predominantly residential workforce at our facilities in Darwin.
“We have employed an additional 150 workers, all local, on a maintenance and asset preservation campaign, which will run for at least five years.”
